I’ve been wanting to do an exclusive signature fabric for my Lil Blue Boo dresses for a while now. I finally got around to it!
The design is all hand drawn using a sharpie and then burned onto a silk screen frame (see my screenprinting 101 tutorial here). I wanted to work in some things I love so it includes the number Pi (as many decimal places I could fit), roman numerals, Chinese number characters and a few other surprises throughout. I was a math major and studied the Chinese language in China so I’ve got some random “loves”.
Note: I wanted to add in some trigonometry, prime numbers etc…..but then I thought the dresses might be banned as “cheat sheets” from school.
Speaking of Pi: I love this link which is a catchy recitation of it. I think I could memorize at least the first 100 decimal places of Pi if I listened to it enough 😉 I am a little obsessed with all things geeky. Geek is the new chic right?
I love busy, intricate prints and have a hard time finding the perfect prints for the dresses I make…..so why not make my own? Stay tuned as I begin to incorporate the new prints into Lil Blue Boo clothing!
I'm a total math geek too. For extra credit in grade school I memorized Pi to like 50 decimal places or something. I love that you're incorporating it in your dresses. 🙂

I didn't know you majored in math. I majored in chem with a math minor and taught math for 4 years before staying home with the kids. I'd totally buy the fabric…if we had it in our budget to buy boutique fabrics that is.

I was inspired by Pi and some general math stuff for a small tattoo I got years ago of the Infinity sign… The concept of infinity is mind blowing…as are your new prints girl~!!!!!

Um, please tell me you're going to sell just the fabric…because I have a math-loving husband that would TOTALLY APPROVE of my using this fabric to create a dress for his daughter! 🙂 How creative!

If you made dresses with these about 15 years ago I would love one ! for cheat sheet!I love busy designs too! I want to screen something like this I wish there was a tutorial on how to draw with sharpy on transparency!! A hint for you !!

Jr. high math teacher here! We would celbrate Pi day (march 14… 3.14) and do all sorts of pi day activities such make pi-day braclets out beads. Each number was repesented by a color and they would sting the bead in the order of the pi digits. We also had a contest to see who could recite the most digits of pi.
I also played this video for them.
I always work my t-shirt that siad "Pi is irrational and so am I!"
