It stormed all day here today and most of the day our Internet was out. So I spent the day finishing up this button art of the Mona Lisa. It’s REALLY hard to get detailed features to look right with buttons! But I think I got close enough so people will recognize her….and now Frida has a friend. I’ve got 2 more pieces in mind…so stay tuned! Not sure what I’m going to do with these yet…..
I videotaped the process for this one as well and I’m just looking for the perfect song to accompany it. Click here to view the Frida video if you want to see the entire button art process!
Completely speechless! This is amazing!

way awesome Ashley and Boo!
Oh my goodness…..that is seriously one of the most creative things I have EVER seen!
Love it! It would take me at least a month to do that. I bought a bulk pack of buttons the other day and thought of you. I’m trying to save them up for me cross.
Oh my wow – I Love this mona lisa! It’s crazy awesome!!!
I know what you can do with them… give them to meeeeee!!!!
Absolutely amazing. You are so incredibly talented
Holy DAMN that is AMAY-ZING!!!
I made your ruffle skirt on the weekend and LOVE IT. I am not even going to *try* this though! AMAAAAZING!!
Seriously? I mean seriously?!! That is amazing! I cannot believe it…just WOW
You are such an artist! Of course people would recognize her. That’s amazing!
After seeing your Frida I went on the search for buttons. I knew this was a project my very artsy-talented 11 year old would want to try her hand at. I just thought I would mention that the cheapest place I found them was dick blick (dot) com. They were 2.99 for a pound versus the 8-9 dollars a pound I found them for everywhere else.
Amazing! That is awesome. If they don’t recognize here, perhaps they don’t know who she is! Love it!
Wow. Just wow. You are so gifted.
Tim Gunn would never have to say “Make it work!” to you, you always do my dear!! Fabulous Mona Lisa 🙂 xox
That is simply am-ah-zing!
Eh…It’s ok I guess.
HA HA HA
Totally rules girls. I see a blog chain reaction coming up in the craft world. Button art. Who can do the coolest?
Like the book wreath.
Of course, Nothing will quite compare to Frida 🙂
Nothing short of amazing Ash….you’re too much girl.
I have seen some great paintings with marbles too! I had a friend in college buy a piece at a children’s art show fundraiser. It was a scenic painting in acrylics on a wood base with clear and colored marbles. (white on the clouds, green in the trees) you get the idea! It was so much fun! She really loved it! It was, however, VERY HEAVY!!!
question: are your buttom pieces very heavy? Has your daughter done one yet? I think that would be lots of fun to see! I have 2 sons and just strated keeping 2 little girls 3 times a week. The oldest one (about to turn 5) loves to do “crafts” and I want to help her make Christmas presents this year for her family members. Any feedback and/or suggestions for crafty girls would be greatly welcomed!
You’re awesome! Amy
one of the best pieces of art that I’ve seen made with buttons. And I like buttons. I made a mosaic mirror frame with buttons…and for the life of me could not get a good, clear photo that would do it justice. But you can have a peek if you wish.

Stunning!
I really love the Frida button painting! It is truly amazing!
When I think of the Mona Lisa I always think of the song from Mona Lisa Smile
OMGOODNESS! I’m blown away! This is beautiful! Now I know why I’ve been saving all these buttons for years!!! Question…what glue were you using? What paint underneath and did you seal this once it dried? This would be beautiful framed with a large frame and over a foyer table or even over a fp mantle. Thank you-thank you- thank you!
Still praying you are growing in strength daily!
Making my gd’s birthday, rainbow, cascading skirt today and have a little ? On this too…did you finish the edges on the ruffles or are they left unfinished? Thanks Ashley(didI tell you I have a daughter named Ashley and probably your age-33…well I do). Yikes, lol, my ADD is kickin in!
