I went in for my Neulesta shot today and I shouldn’t have worn this shirt. In order to give me a shot in the arm I would have had to strip. Note to self, don’t wear a tight shirt that has thumb holes on shot day.
So…..they gave me the shot in the stomach……right next to my now-off-center bellybutton. I told the nurse her hands were going to be on the internet….it looks like she’s doing an extra careful job with this shot. I’m going to use that to my advantage from this point forward.
The nurse was trying to convince an elderly woman sitting across from me to get her shot in her stomach too. She was adamant against it…..so I told her I’d go first and she could watch. It wasn’t that bad…..but it didn’t work…..I think she would have fought them to the bitter end.
My white blood cell counts are really good right now….(6,800 and anything between 4,100 and 10,900 is normal) so it looks like they’ll be able to hit me with another round of chemo in another week. The sooner the better personally.

I’m with the old lady – I’d deck anyone coming toward me with a needle to the stomach. Somehow, you make it all (and I mean all) look so damn easy though. Like maybe any one of us reading could make it through with a bit of laughter if you can post a picture of your stomach shot for the world to see.
Gweny says
Actually its easier and less painful for most in the stomach..
Jennifer Dingman says
Yup, less nerves in the stomach than in the arm. You get a lot more ‘stingers’ in the arms 🙁 You and your family continue to be in our prayers. Love your positive spirit!!

If you have the headache and bone pain from the neulasta like my husband did take a claritin. It made the pain bearable.

I really wanted to comment on your shirt and say it is super cute and ask where you bought it but everyone else’s comments made me feel bad for being shallow… SSSSOOOO Yay for your white blood cell count!! I really am happy that the number is good and I truly hate that you are going through this. Your posts are an inspiration to me (and I am not just saying that cuz I want to know about the shirt…). Ashley; I always had my Neulasta shot in the stomach area….I think it would be really uncomfortable in the arm. Great counts means you’re ready for more. Go get em girl! Heather

what the heck?? is all I kept thinking as I read your recent posts… I have been following your blog for awhile but the last time I logged on was when you posted on your father passing away.. I had to go back to that post and read to current to find out what was going on. My head was spinning at how fast life takes a different path and how things have changed for you so drastically. my thoughts and prayers are with you and I am touched at how you are sharing your story so that others may not feel so alone.. my daughter Hailie usually cuddles with me as I read blogs and she loves looking at pictures of your little girl, they are about the same age. Crazy how you feel like you know someone by just reading their blog. If it doesnt weird you out too much I also wanted to let you know that I have worked for Banner Health Plan Adminstration for over 14 years here in AZ. I am the manager of the insurance department and am very familiar with struggles in regards to claims, eligibility, authorization, and appeals as my staff and I assist Banner employees on their issues daily. If you would like for me to help you wase through some things on the insurance side I most definetely would be willing to help so that is one stress you wouldn’t have to deal with. Just shoot me an email.. [email protected] and if it is too creepy I totally understand just wanted to throw it out there..

I just saw your website a couple of days ago but didn’t realize you were vacationing in Chemoville. If I thought for one minute that I’d look a tenth as cute as you without hair, I’d shave mine in a flash. You’ve inspired me so much, Ashley. I have some health stuff that’s been pretty hard for about 25 years now, but it hasn’t been as big a deal as cancer. You will get through this and have your health back. I truly believe that. I’ll be stopping by from time to time to tell you a joke because laughter IS the BEST medicine.
My son told me that “The past, present and future all went into a bar one night.” I said “Yeah, and what happened?” He said “It was tense.”
You take care of you sweet girl and know that Rebecca Avery is gonna place a call to Heaven and ask God to send His very best angel to watch over you and make sure they give you the super duper meds that work miracles. He and I are really tight and He said in Psalm 91:11 He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Keep smiling pretty lady.
Huge virtual hug coming at cha from Keller, TX.
