I’m obviously easily amused. I don’t know why this made me laugh so hard…..but, because it did, I have to share. Spoiler alert: Notice that the kangaroo just “falls” into the bag. And then I laugh hysterically at the fact that he’s laying upside down with his tail sticking out.
I was at the doctor yesterday describing how I’d passed out the other day and I used this as an example: I collapsed, you know, like when Jake Sully gets unplugged and his avatar body collapses in front of the Na’vi. I got a blank stare. The Na’vi, the indigenous people of Pandora? Blank stare. I guess you didn’t see the movie…. I’ve got an echo on Monday and more blood work and then hopefully I get a break from doctor appointments for a while.
So glad it’s Saturday. I woke up early (or what I thought was early) and Boo immediately said: I ate the last cinnamon roll. You should have woken up earlier. She’s right. The cinnamon roll was fair game. Mr. LBB had to work early this morning. He had the chance to eat the last cinnamon roll but he didn’t. Boo played quietly and got dressed by herself, letting me sleep in as a peace offering.
So, we are going to Seattle soon for some much needed vacation. What should we do while we are there?
Morgan says
They have a beauitful downtown library – as well as a science fiction museum that is awesome!

OOHH! I love Seattle. Lots of fun stuff to do, but one of the neatest things we did was take the Underground Seattle tour. I’m not usually a tour gal, but it was very interesting to see actual store fronts still in tack, right under the street 🙂

My daughter and I just got back from there! She is moving there in August to go to Grad School. You have to go to Pikes Market for sure. And you can take a drive to Lake Washington to see Mt. Rainier. We also went to Alki Beach. If you have passports, Vancouver is a short drive away, less than 2 hours. and if you drive to Portland, there is no sales tax! There is a great park and Asian Art Museum that is at the end of 15th street, I think.
Have a great trip!
Deborah says
Get a City Pass! Lots of great things to do for one price. The Space Needle, Children’s Museum, ferry tour, EMP and a whole lot more are all included. You have to do the music video at the EMP! It is hilarious and a definite keepsake! Do the Ducks too! They tour Seattle and the bay, you get a small glimpse of the house from Sleepless in Seattle! lol!
Adriana M. says
On Saturday mornings when I sleep in my husband always cooks pancakes for the kids. When I ask my daughter if she saved me any she always replies “you snooze, you lose.” Lol
Fortunately I have a loving husband who puts enough batter aside to make me pancakes when I wake up. He loves me that much…. or he is just afraid I will start making him get up at 3am with the baby. :p
Adriana M. says
Also, I literally laughed out loud at that video. How ridiculous! 🙂

With your love/obsession of donuts you have to try The Crumpet Shop on 1st street in the Pike’s Place Market. OH MY! Also climb the Fremont Troll, throw some fish in the market, eat some fresh peaches and cherries, admire the knitted trees in Pioneer Square, add gum to the gum wall in gum alley! So many things to do in Seattle. Just explore and enjoy! We looked up Groupon Deals before we went and found some fun excursions!
Elisa F. says
Yay! If you want classic touristy things, there are lots to choose from here.
Start at the Seattle Center: you really do have to at least go up in the Space Needle. Lunch in its revolving restaurant is a little bit spendy, but way more reasonable than dinner. The kids dessert called the Lunar Orbiter is a complete crack-up – it’s supposed to look like a space ship has landed on your table – dry ice and everything. The final King Tut exhibit ever, ever, EVER (in North America anyway) is currently showing at the Science Center and is fantastic (buy your tickets now and hit the accompanying IMAX movie). The Chihuly Glass Museum is just beautiful. Also departing from the Seattle Center, but not associated with it, is the Ride the Ducks Tour. It’s an amphibious, open-air bus-like thing that take you on a goofily-narrated land tour of the downtown highlights, then putters around Lake Union for a bit – Sleepless in Seattle houseboats included – and drops you back at the Seattle Center. My kids can’t get enough of the monorail that takes you from there into downtown. Try to snag a seat way up front right near the driver – he might let Boo honk the horn.
Have a great, great time!

Make sure you go to Top Pot Doughnuts!!! Also go to Molly Moon’s… it’s a homemade ice cream shop with unusual flavors. It’s pricey but WELL worth it. Obviously Pike Place Market. If you go to the University District, there are lots of vintage thrift stores and then you can canoe around the arboretum… it’s really beautiful. I live in Seattle and there are tons of things to do. 🙂
Lacey says
Sounds like you would be an awesome Seattle tour guide!!
Audrey says
You definitely need to take a ferry ride. There’s a water taxi that goes from downtown to West Seattle and you can see seals sunbathing on the buoys. In West Seattle, you can go to any one of the beaches (I love Alki). They also filmed Sleepless in Seattle in large part in West Seattle, so it’s kind of fun in a cheesy way on top of being beautiful and fun. It’s even where Meg Ryan’s parents’ home is in the movie (which in the movie is a quaint little two-story, but in realty is like 8,000 square feet with an indoor pool and tennis courts – good editing I suppose!). I can’t find it in a quick search on the web, but I went by there in 2007 and it was on the market for a couple million macaroons, and the neighborhood was well worth a nice walk!
Morgan says
Is anyone else concerned about what he is going to do with the kangaroo?
Ashley says
Hahahaha……um, yes.
laura says
lol its a pet. Shopping bags make great makeshift pouches for orphaned joeys.
Morgan says
Ahh, I thought he looked a little hungry . . .
Linda says
Definitely Mt. Rainier is beautiful. Chihuly Glass Museum in Tacoma is just beautiful-
Darci says
EMP is soon much fun! Definitely go do that and pikes place market

another fun way to see the sleepless in seattle house is by kayak! they rent them down the street from the house (on lake union) at the northwest outdoor center. you could get a triple so your family would fit in one boat! so fun to paddle around and see seattle from the lake (plus it’s an awesome workout for your arms!) just watch out for landing float planes! 😉
tracie says
There’s a kanagroo farm north of Seattle 🙂 I say for sure get a city pass.. depending how long you are going to be here
Erika says
I agree get the city pass. I did it last year when a friend came to visit and it was great. Also the ride the duck tours are so much fun! Have fun!
Andrea says
How did I miss this post?! ooooh I live 30 mins south of Seattle and my sister is visiting for 2 weeks so we will be doing a lot of touristy stuff…of course the husband and I always like doing the touristy stuff… lol The new Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit and Seattle Space Needle (get the combo depending on weather) is AH-Mazing! Just went last week…
Pike’s Place is always fun-(Google Gum wall and prepare to puke) I can’t even look at postcards let alone actually see it.. (puke) check out the Fremont Bridge Troll, (giant troll with VW Bug) , Ballard Locks, Archie McPhees. If you are into collector cars- Tacoma just opened an amazing museum called the LeMay Car museum. This is one mans collection- I think they will have rotating exhibits- it just opened this Spring. We will be going in the next week. There are 2 zoos- Woodland Park (N. Seattle) (HUGE) and Point Defiance (Tacoma)(much smaller but nice) Both are great! If you decide to go south to Mt. Rainier be sure to find this sculpture garden by Dan Klennart (google him- AH-MAZING!!!) If you head to Mt. St. Helen’s – aim for Johnson’s Ridge Observatory.
Michaela says
There’s a glass museum in tacoma (http://www.museumofglass.org/) that’s stinking amazing. They do live glass blowing demonstrations and its super cool. And I thought it was super cool when I was like 7 so hopefully your little one will get a kick out of it! Also, Tacoma High is the high school from 10 Things I Hate About You. Plus, Tacoma also has a lot of fun little shops and restaurants.
The U district has so many yummy restaurants! There’s also a lot of vintage stores in the area.
The Crumpet Shop (donuts) by Pike’s is like heaven on earth.
I hope you have a fun trip!
Georgia says
HA ha ha! I’m Australian and yes, that is exactly how you do it!! We raised a few joeys as kids and they love to be upside-down in their ‘pouches’ as that is how their mothers do it. With their sweet little faces snuggled into their abnormally long and awkward looking feet 🙂 Seriously cute.
kelly says
Pike Place, gum wall, whale watching, drive to Portland to go to VooDoo donuts. Kind if far but totally worth it.
Lauren says
There’s a small donut stand in Pike Place called the Daily Dozen..realllllllly good fresh out of the fryer little donuts!! Also, we just built a new ferris wheel looking thing on the waterfront right by the aquarium that lights up at night!

Seattle’s the best. I just took my daughter there. Two days, a City Pass and six fun things: EMP museum, zoo, harbor cruise, Pacific Science Center, Space Needle and aquarium. Whew! So fun, though. Also, don’t miss the fish throwing at Pike’s Place Market, Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe (near the harbor cruise dock) and Uwajimaya (really fun, huge Asian market with Asian food court!). Have fun!
Lavonne Dideon says
I live in Seattle and there is so much to do – Boo will enjoy the Seattle Center area – Children’s museum, Science Center…. if you time it right we have the Blue Angels coming for SeaFair Aug 3 wknd which is a crazy wknd here – or next wknd is the bite of Seattle http://www.comcastbiteofseattle.com/ then later is the folk festival…. there is a great Art Festival in Bellevue and many Art Walks usually on Thurs. Just off Pioneer Square and the International District is the Artist Galleries. For Chocolate tour Theo Chocolates which is healthy and very tasty. King Tut. Last time in the U.S. If you are coming up next weekend CreationFest is in Enumclaw, a bit of a drive. We love the museum of flight at Boeing field. a fun cheap thing to do is hop on the ferry that goes to Bainbridge Island. There’s a little known place on Bainbridge called the Bloedel Reserve. They only allow so many people per day. Gardens…have fun!
Barbara says
ferris wheel, space needle, top pots, pike place, woodland park zoo, seattle aquarium, point defiance zoo, ride the duck, ivars, mariners game, lemay car museum, children’s museum in Tacoma (way better than the seattle one), chuckanut drive is beautiful, have a party so all your seattle fans can meet you!

Oh I’d love to go back to Seattle! Enjoy your trip =) I wrote a post about the things that I liked most there, if you’re interested:
PS I wouldn’t be too worried about that kangaroo, it’s too small to be eaten 😉

Seattle isso fun! We recently went as a family too! I say the city pass is the way to go too! My kids love the zoo and aquarium. The science center has king tut there right now. We also like ferry rides. Pikes place is neat too! There is a lot to do there and it is so pretty!

How did you people get on the subject of donuts?
Tsuki aka LittleGrayFox says
We have a new ferris wheel on the waterfront. The lines are still long and it’s fairly expensive to ride, but it’s cool to see! Part of it hangs over the water 🙂
The aquarium is always great, and alki beach. currently, it’s raining and thundering in seattle 🙁
Karin S. says
Ha! You aren’t the only one with a sense of humor. I thought the Kangaroo video was hysterical! It seems so easy, I’m sure I could totally do it! Especially the first step: “Finding a roo in the bush. Oh wait, here’s one now!” I’ll be laughing for days. Thanks!
Laur says
Eat at Ivars Salmon House down on the warf. Oh yozza the best fish. Even the little fish and chip stands are awesome.
Enjoy and safe travels!
Susan says
Oh you made me giggle with that video too. We have kangaroos just around the corner (sometimes I can see them from my backyard). I have never got that close to them before. I tried to take some photos and they stay and watch you till you are within a certain distance then they hop away till you get that close again.
The only time I have touched them was the ones at Australia Zoo who don’t mind you in their space.
Have a great vacation with your family.
Susan
Laura says
Pikes, of course, and go down to the waterfront to get fish from Ivar’s. There’s a nice, sit down restaurant, and a walk up fish & chips type. And the Chihuly glass exhibit by the Space Needle is really lovely. I have the feeling you’ll see it and soon we’ll start seeing glass blowing tutorials on the blog. 🙂
Kristen says
Pike Place MArket for sure. Park by the space needle and take to monorail downtown and go to the market. Best Peaches EVER!!! The seattle aquarium is fun. Have fun!
Ronda says
Seattle is one of my favorite places ot visit, there is a lot to see. Some of my favorites is Pike Place, the underground tour, and taking the ferry. Mt. Rainer is amazing, as is the glass muesem. Drink lots of coffee and try out some chocolate shops as they have some really good ones, Frans is one of my favorites thought. If you there for the art festival in Bellevue, totally worth it as it is huge with a ton of great artists. Have a great time.

Take the ferry to Bainbridge Island! On the way you might see seals sunning themselves, Bainbridge is a cute little place w/lots of little shops, and the views there and back are stunning!
