My dad was always adamant about me working…..so I always had the most random of summer jobs: I worked at a law firm, I was a caddy at a golf course, I packed beer, I was a cocktail waitress, I worked at county vital records for company research, I valeted cars…..and I even worked for free at times just to learn things…..like the business of picture framing. I sure do have a lot of great stories to remember…..and I just wish I remembered more.Today….start a timeline in your journal where you can start logging the jobs you’ve held throughout your life. See if you can place them in order across your timeline. Dig out an old resume if you have one to see if you can fill in the years. Jot down a few memories from each one…..the first things that come to mind. Take a few pages if you need to….and work on this page over time as you remember things. Pat yourself on the back for all that hard work and the character it built up over time…..oh wait, I think I’m quoting my dad…..

I’ve worked at the same place since I was 16, my dad’s restaurant. I’ve got 10 years in next month. My dad used to call me the “pork dork” because my first job there was cooking bacon and sausage on weekend mornings and keeping the breakfast buffet stocked. I am glad I’ve been promoted since then. My timeline will be short though as I went from being the “pork dork” to managing. :p

Jeannette B. says
No, no, no, Natasha! NEVER be sad that you are blessed enough to be able to be a SAHM. Yours is a very important job! What work do you do for your little one(s)? How has that work evolved over time? You should have plenty to put on your timeline!
Ashley Hackshaw says
Yes Jeannette! We posted at almost the same time…haha.
Ashley Hackshaw says
Well I think your timeline would include now: stay at home mom, cook, taxi driver, life coach, laudrymat supervisor etc 😉

…Jeanette–and don’t forget these…baker, home healthcare provider, hair stylist, seamstress, housekeeper, organizer, personal assistant…the list goes on. Hopefully all these job titles will remind you of the many hats you’ve worn over the years. You likely have some classic and funny stories to jot down for each of them. Please don’t be sad about how important your job is!!
