It’s strange indeed how memories can lie dormant in a man’s mind for so many years. Yet those memories can be awakened and brought forth fresh and new, just by something you’ve seen, or something you’ve heard, or the sight of an old familiar face.
– Wilson Rawls, Where the Red Fern Grows
Day 6’s prompt is:
This isn’t the first map I’ve drawn of my childhood neighborhood. Each time I draw a new map and compare it to an old one there are new memories and little changes. What I’ve realized is that the more years that go by…..the less I remember……but every once in a while something new will bring back an old memory and it’s like a flood of new awakened memories.
If you have trouble remembering enough to draw a map think about reaching out to someone you knew as a child and see what they remember!

This is awesome! I moved away from that neighbrhood 4.5 years ago, and I remember every detail! It’s making so many wonderful memories come back 🙂

Thank you Ashley for a wonderful prompt today. This was my favorite prompt so far!

I’m horrible with directions (probably as bad as you, Ashley. I’d die without gps, and I’ve lived in the same town my whole life) and a day behind. So I google mapped my old address and I’ll add notes! I have a very vague memory of my childhood.

I love the map…it is very accurate!! We took many a walk up that road in the morning since you and your siblings arose at the crack of dawn!! Just the other day, I took a kayak out from the Lake wylie Marina down from our house which you drew and things haven’t change too much!! The muskrats had done alot of damage on the piers and sides of the lake. I love the memories of the sandcastles you did on the little beach, jumping off the pier trying to catch mama mallard and her babies as they swam by, bonfires on the beach with marshmellow and graham crackers, birthday parties on the beach every year!! We are soo blest…praise the Lord. You are precious to make us remember the good times. mom
