I’ve been teaching Boo the basics of embroidery….no fancy stitches yet….just how to split the thread, thread the needle and sew a line. My mother taught me to sew when I was her age. It was one of my favorite things to do.
Boo finished this sweet little sign up last night….I thought I’d just leave it in the hoop and hang it somewhere.
The little wicker sewing box was my step-grandmother’s. I knew I saved it for a reason: B is for Boo.
Boo: Oh my gosh….this is the cutest little trashcan!
Me: That is…..a thimble.
All you need for a beginning sewing project is:
Embroidery needles
Embroidery hoops
DMC thread
Mark-B-Gone Pen
Fabric (or cross stitch fabric)
For your sanity I also recommend:
Thread beeswax (run the thread through it and it reduces knots and tangles)
Wire needle threaders (to help them thread needles)
A book Boo is working on right now is a cute book for whimsical embroidery: Doodle Stitching: Embroidery & Beyond. It has tiny little cross stitch patterns for woodland creatures and a lot of decorative stitches. All the Doodle Stitching books by Aimee Ray are filled with inspiration

Oh, how sweet!
I taught my boys, who are 16, 13, and 9, how to sew. It is such a valuable skill.
Mr grandma taught me how to embroider when I was 6. I have loved it ever since.

Oh sweet! I would hang it just like that in the hoop, too. Isn’t it just amazing how centering it is to do hand work like that…something that is missing from our busy world these days. Good Mama!

I love her exclamation about the thimble being a trash can! It does look just like a miniature one. May we use it for the Barbie house? We could use one for Boo’s dolls.
Her stitches are perfect!!! You are wonderful to take the time to teach her. My sweetest memories were of you sewing and doing crafts.
I love you all, mom
