As I write this we are somewhere in Illinois and have driven 2,165 miles so far in our trip. We are headed to Nashville today where my aunt lives. I will wait to give you a recap of our trip but a few things we’ve learned so far:
1. You can’t take a 16 foot box trailer across the Hoover Dam.
2. You can’t sneak a dog through an X-ray machine at a national monument.
3. Uploading photos through a car Wifi can easily eat up your entire phone plan in a matter of minutes.
And most of all:
Everyone should take the time to drive America, especially the back roads.

We just passed you on 24! I looked up the hash tag in the back of your trailer and found my way here. We were in the green Bullitt Mustang. Have a safe journey and I look forward to reading about your new adventure!

We took two weeks and did the east coast years ago before we had kiddos…it was really one of the best trips of my life.

I am enjoying these little snippets of your journey. Our whole family wishes you safe travels the rest of the way. My husband biked cross country using the 76 bike route from VA to OR the summer we graduated from college. We have always said we will do it again someday with our two boys. I just LOVE the pic of Diesel! He looks like he rules the world! Can’t wait to read what is next. XOXO from Richmond, VA.

Love this picture and hearing about your journey! I am thinking this might be taken off of 1-70 around Effingham, IL…..there is a giant Cross there and this reminds me of that 😉 Safe travels!!!!

Have read your blog for a while now and couldn’t believe it when I read you were in Nashville as so am I. That might not sound that unusual, except I usually live in London, England. I am here for the CMAFest with three girlfriends. Felt I had to add a post also to say happy travels to you all. I can’t wait to read all about the rest of your trip and especially your new beginnings.

Have a great time in Nashville! Hope you get to hear some good music in the little bars. They’re family friendly, maybe they’ll even let Diesel in!

Yes!! I have a great many fond memories of travelling the US. My parents purposely made it a priority to take us on a driving trip somewhere every summer, even though resources were very tight! We often went to see & stay with family, and usually travelled with my grandparents, who taught me by example how to persevere gracefully! (Something I especially admire now that I’m just beginning into aging and marvel at how beautifully they handled those trips) All those travel experiences inform my life, even now! For me, those trips have been a treasure of memories and a wealth of information! Giant Redwoods, Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, the great plains, Pike’s Peak, the South, Niagra Falls and the monuments & museums of D.C.—our country has surprising and breathtaking places to offer!
