Remember when pocket protectors were the ultimate geek status symbol? Not anymore. Here is new little screenprint I am adding to some dresses: full pocket protector complete with crayons, a pencil and a little sock monkey thanks to my friend Lisa’s suggestion.
Here it is on a simple bubble dress (in my etsy shop):
Geek IS the new chic! I’m all about teaching my daughter that being different, smart and a little nerdy is not just okay….it is awesome!

So stinkin' cute! My nephew (a geek) and his wife just had a son and they call him their little money, referring to sock monkeys. Maybe when he's a little older to appreciate it… You're so very creative!

Arg! I am hating the negative people on your blog lately. I think you are fantastic and you inspire lots and lots (Hello! Over 1,000 followers!) of people out there. Don't let them get to you!
Leigh Ann says
I love this dress! I have been trying to figure out how to make a bubble dress for my 2 year old too because of a dress I saw at Target! I hope they don't find out =) Great job and keep it up. I love it all!

That is really cute!!
marisa says
It sort of cracks me up when people accuse other people of copying designs. I have seen soo many crayon rolls, pillowcase dresses, ruffle shirts, skirts even other "recycled" tee dresses in Etsy shops. Who cares? Honestly.
I'm glad that people post the projects to inspire and maaaaybe copy for their own. It's a form of flattery in my eyes!
margaret says
wow… mirandaS sounds like quite the piece of work. ashley – your stuff is so cute, fun, and obviously shows your unique style. i'm sorry that you've had to deal with mean comments from others. keep up the great work – you inspire all of us to make fun, original clothing!
{although i have to admit i don't have a creative bone in my body – i use patterns for all of my daughter's clothes. so that makes me even more jealous of your creativity!!!}
and thank you for all the time you put into your blog for all us readers to enjoy.
Mama Llama says
I see that happy little elf, Miranda, has already been here. Christmas cheer for everyone! She's such a beam of light in a dark world.
Carol B says
Lovely! as is all you do. keep it up!
Shari says
MirandaS, this blog is here to inspire people to sew, craft, be creative etc. If you don't feel inspired (because apparently you've done and seen it all), why even bother visiting?
Like I said in Ashley's first post ever about 'copying' which is what all my art teachers told me in art school many years ago, "There is nothing new in art." Inspiration is borrowed from bits and pieces of everything we see in life (especially in this day and age of technology!). Stop trying to police it, you're never going to win.
mommabear says
OMGosh is all I can say about your correction! Some people!!! Don't let them (her) get you down!!!!!!!
My Shenanigans says
I think that you handled that with such grace, I just wanted you to know that for every ridiculously negative person you should know that there are at least 15 of us that really enjoy everything that you post. Thank you!
Lizelle says
I'm delurking just to say – Oh my hat… the negativity!! I'm pretty sure bubble dresses have been around for ages and no one should now claim to have invented it!! Also while I'm here just to say – I realllly love the stuff you make!
Kristin says
Do you plan to post a tutorial/pattern on how to make that bubble dress? I think it is adorable! I am looking for a long sleeve, comfy dress pattern for my daughter.

Oh, dear…
Just yesterday I dragged my poor husband into BabyGap just so I could check out what the new styles were…just so I could copy them at home. We do NOT buy new clothes, and so I really like it when my daughters see something cute in a store–embroidered hearts on a pair of jeans, say, or a bubble dress from Target–and I can tell them, "We can totally figure that out at home." Out of, you know, stuff that we already own.
So much of what kids love about clothes are (aside from comfort) the embellishments. And you've got that down pat!
