I’ve been teaching Boo how to take photos with black and white photography paper. We made a few wide angle pinhole cameras (easier to change film all at once) and set up a small darkroom in the hall bathroom to develop the paper. I’m working on a few posts so you can just copy what we did….but wanted to share a few of Boo’s photos:

Taking a photo of me:
We’ve used film before in a pinhole but the photographic paper is so much better. She can take a photo and quickly develop it….and see what needs to be adjusted….then go right back out and re-take the photo. For example, here was the first self portrait she took. As soon as we saw it developing we could tell that the shutter hadn’t been left open long enough. So she adjusted to 40 seconds instead of 20 seconds. P.S. That’s a long time for a kid to stay still…..that’s why they get a little blurry. But I love all the flaws and light leaks and dust that affect the photos.
It’s like Christmas every time we place the photo into the developer:
These photos were taken with a wide angle pinhole and photographic paper (no film). Tutorials will be up this week. In the meantime check out these other pinhole related posts:
Can you tell I love traditional processes? I secretly want to be Sally Mann.

I used to love to develop my own film and photos, and have the equipment for a home darkroom that has been collecting dust for years now. You’ve inspired me to pull out the trays and enlarger and teach my girls- I am sure they will think it is “magic” when the picture starts to appear. What an amazing mom you are- you do the coolest stuff with your daughter!

The horse picture is very well composed. They look real until you notice the size.

Boo is learning so many things most children would never be exposed. She is so blest to have a mom who takes time with her. You are a blessing…the years go by too fast!
