This is such a quick and easy project that anyone can do! I picked up this olive oil dispenser and thought that with a little glass etching it would be a much nicer soap dispenser than the generic plastic bottle version. You can pick up glass etching cream on Amazon.
Glass etching is the process where the glass is given a rough texture until it has a “frosted” look.
I used my Silhouette machine to cut out the letters “Dish Soap” from a piece of vinyl contact paper but you could easily use an exacto knife to cut out such a simple design:
I placed the stencil onto the bottle and made sure all the areas were adhered:
Following the directions of the etching cream, I brushed a thick layer on top of the stencil and left it on for a few minutes:
After the cream had time to “etch” the glass, I washed it off in the sink and peeled off the stencil:
The finished etched glass:
Hubby filled the bottle with soap…..
…..and finished!

I bought that exact same olive oil bottle at that exact same place. Too bad we didn’t run into each other while we were shopping. 🙂
I used my silhouette to cut SOAP out in vinyl to put on mine. I totally love it better than that ugly plastic bottle.

I have always wanted to try the Glass Etching but haven’t as of yet. Your dIY looks so easy I just have one question. I see you used your computer to print out the words what did you print it on that adhered to the glass???
Can you email me w/the answer? Thanks!

That is such a great idea. I never thought to etch letters. the possibilities are endless now! Using print also helps little ones learn how to read. It’s meaningful to them too bc it’s in context. It also helps point fathers in the right direction.;0)

I love that this is an olive oil bottle…I never would have thought of that, but it works so perfectly!!!

where do you buy etching cream?
Laura says
I love this idea! I just bought the same bottle but I was wondering if you could tell me what font and size you used?
Thanks
Megan says
Love the idea, but you couldn’t fill the bottle yourself?

I made something very similar to this but I have one question – the soap seems to take FOREVER to get out of the bottle when turned upside down. Anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it?
Ashley says
Dilute it! I add water to mine….it’s better for the environment too 🙂
Laura says
I also have the same problem with the soap taking a long time to come out…I thought maybe it was the dispenser itself but maybe ill try diluting it and see if that helps….anyone else have any suggestions? I am using the “Green Works” Soap. Also if I dilute it, does it still clean/get rid of germs as well?
THanks

Love this!!! Great idea! Would you mind sharing what font that was exactly. Thank you so much!

How do you keep the spout from rusting? I used this method for the longest time and felt like it not only looked better but saved me $ on soap. The rusty spout was my only issue.
Ashley says
Mine has never rusted perhaps you need to get one with a different spout? It might be the type of metal in the one you are using.

Thank you!
