An open aware heart is your camera. -Ansel Adams
My little girl watching the sun rise yesterday morning on her own:
That picture just makes my heart swell….that she even expressed interest in the sunrise. I want her to be awake to the world. To be able to entertain herself. To play, to explore, to read, to connect widely offline. She can tinker and wander and wonder. She can invent her own life.
And at her own pace. Last weekend she wanted to build a house for the squirrels. Brett let her make all the decisions.
It took all day…but the result was a house…with a swinging bridge. Practical? No…but very creative. I think I need to unlearn some things.
I want her to be full of experience. And I want her heart to be moved. Over and over.
Investments.
The sunrise is a good start.
Step 1. Wonder at something.
Step 2: Invite others to wonder with you.
You should wonder at the things nobody else is wondering about. If everybody’s wondering about apples, go wonder about oranges.

I love this. It reminds me of this summer when my sister and her friends got up at 5 in the morning to watch the sunrise, just because (and they are NOT morning people). I want to do more things like this. To be amazed by what the world has to offer. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Children learn all the time. We make time for them to be the best they can be at all times. I know I did with my grown children and now I am making time for my 2 grandkids to be the very best that they can be. Everything is a learning process and we help them to learn and grow.

I thought this was lovely. Didn’t you guys used to be in the finance industry way way back? I remember reading your story. I thought it was poetic that this post was called “Investments” and I really connect with this idea. I enjoy how you embrace these moments, that you consider them so vital. It encourages me to continue on in my hopes for my children, makes me glad other mothers and fathers are thinking this way.

I love to hear about Boo & her creative mind! Some birds may end up in her squirrel house. You never know but those squirrels may move right in! Last year we had two kits in our backyard tree. They were sweet to watch & still visit the birdfeeders. They even can lift the lid of the storage can! Yes. I did see him pop the top. I hollered & he ran up the tree! Maybe I should build a squirrel house. Thank you so much for sharing.

I recently started reading your blog. I stumbled onto your blog as I was searching for growing hair out after cancer. I think that you should write about “you being you”. I like that line. I like seeing how people move on after cancer, because a little more than a year ago when I finished chemo I wondered what’s next and how do you live my life after a diagnosis of cancer. Your writing shows me that you just live and enjoy every moment life has to offer, which is exactly how I try to live too.
