I was wondering where the turkey vultures had gone. I hadn’t seen them in so long. They have a few trees that they like to roost on near our house.
They were gliding over the town yesterday. Boo and I just stared up at the sky in awe. They never flap their wings, they just glide. It’s mesmerizing:
I’ve written about the vultures before if you are interested:
The Raptor and the Mourning Dove
They are the most interesting bird. They do the job that no one else wants. And they are completely silent. The peace eagle.

Hi Ashley,
this might be a stupid question, but: Is the film in slow motion or do they really move that way? To my defense: In Germany, which is where I live, we do not have them and I have never seen one in the wilderness.
All the best to you and your family, I so so much enjoy your writing! And also: Happy Birthday to Sienna. It seems she and I share a birthday, just that I am sooooo much older, I turned 39 that is 30 years more, oh my…!
Love! Hannah

They are beautiful and fascinating! I heard a zookeeper say that they actually vomit on their food (always dead, roadkill) to “clean” it and kill bacterial and nasties before they eat? It was so gross but so interesting 🙂

Since reading your last article on vultures my son (12YO) and I now refer to them as Spirit Eagles…I guess I mixed the Peace Eagles and conveying the spirit to the heavens part…but it works for us. I think they are majestic in their own way.
