Sometimes Foshizzle gets separated from the flock. Today I looked out the living room window and Fo was just standing in the rain, frozen, like she didn’t quite know where to go or what to do. All the other chickens had made their way back to the chicken run when the downpour started…but not Fo:
I ran out to get her and brought her back to the house. I dried her off and blow-dried her just enough so her feathers would fluffy again. At least she has feathers though….poor Ditto lost all the feathers on the back of her head and the other chickens keep pecking at the new feathers so I have to spray paint her head purple with Blue Kote wound dressing.
Today we were approved to adopt Miss Happy. Happy is 14 years old and has been in a shelter ever since her owner went into a nursing home. Miss Happy! Isn’t she just the most precious thing ever?
We are so excited for her to join our family and meet all the other members our menagerie on Hospital Hill. I’m going to get her at the end of the week so I’ll share more as Happy settles in.

Such a good person you are. Our last dog was a greyhound adopted at age 9, not young for a greyhound. He gave us four wonderful years. Bless you and Miss Happy!

Old dogs are the best. I adopted a 12 year old Lab I named Ruby. My vet told me Ruby was going to break my heart. I was like..What? He said she is old and will not live long. Long enough for you to fall in love with her. Ruby lived four more years. After we had her on medication for severe arthritis she became like a puppy. Running and having a wonderful time. I would come home from work and she would put her head in my lap and just hum. She was happy. When she passed away my heart was broken. I still tell folks about her and her joy for life even as an old girl. Thank you, Ashley. You, too, bring joy and laughter to our days.

Ashley, I’ve been following you for years – since your cancer diagnosis, and move east from CA. I, too, just moved from the SF bay area back to WI bec of the cost of living and am so happy. I’m 66 with 2 wonderful kitties, and I love your menagerie stories! My oldest kitty, Vivian, is almost 12 and still very with it and spry – a tortie and so darn cute. Thank you for your creative self and your honesty. I love it!

Bless you for adopting Happy; senior dogs are the best. I adopted a German Shepherd, Lab mix several years ago. He was only 6, but not well taken care of; he lived until 15! They have love to give no matter what age. You bring joy and happiness everytime I read your message.

Fo has us laughing at her startling resemblance to Cruela DeVil from 101 Dalmations! Love your pets, family, love for life, and for sharing all of it with us. 🙂 Thank you for being so awesome!
